Spring 2019
Lamp Project
The purpose of this project was to create a lamp that was meant for an indoor space, but was large enough so the lamp was a defining aspect of whatever space it was in. The design brief required the lamp to be beautiful when it was switched off, and to celebrate the beauty of light when it was turned on.

My project choose to use steel and acrylic panels to create a lamp that symbolized growth and progress. The aesthetic qualities of the lamp were designed to incorporate a strong vertical presence at every point from the arrangement of the panels that surround the bulbs, to the tall and very vertical bulbs, and the vertical brushed pattern on the metal. The design chose to incorporate warm colored bulbs to compliment the cool tones of the metal, the frosted acrylic, and the base.

The final creation is just a high fidelity prototype, and could go through a few more rounds of iteration. The primary things I would change in the future would be to focus on how this project could be made lighter, or easier to package and ship. I also have some ideas about changing the tone of the bulbs from warm to cool as the height of the lamp increases, going back to the original source of inspiration, the idea of growth and progress.
